I am absolutely astounded by some of the music I mix, and as a producer myself I am wondering if anyone here can give me some advise on which programs are good for creating your own synth lines & melodies? I have Absynth, Fruity Loops and Rebirth but I'm just not getting the kinds of sound I am looking for. Also, how can I take a file I save as either WAV or MP3 and convert it to MIDI so that I can tweak it & mess with it in Fruity Loops????????

It all depends on your setup, do you have a synth or midi controller keyboard? What do you have, a PC or Mac? If you have a PC, check out Cubase, if you have a Mac, check out Logic. As long as the sequencer has a good matrix editor on it, you can create your own synth, bass, and drum loops. Reason is pretty good too...
Logic Pro 7 comes with enough plugins to sink a battleship!!!

I hope this helps...

MIDI is not sound. It will only convert to a small datafile that tells your computer to play an instrument it already has.
If you want to play with MIDI in FL, then add a MIDI OUT channel and set it up against the Fruity LSD.

Have you ever heard about Beat Burner software? It's very simple but you can create amazing synth loops from normal drumloops.
