I presume at least a few ppl on here have used their own vocalists,
I need a female vocalist and a jazz pianist, bass guitar player and electric guitar player for some house tunes i've been working on, only problem is...
I don't know where to even start look or do...
Do studios have session vocalists/musicians i can use, or would i be needing to hunt down my own??
If i need to hunt down my own, where do i look?? Agencies?
I technically could play the piano and keyboard myself, although not to the degree of professionals.
What do you do in regards to contract, copyright, sales profit sharing etc etc???
i'm totally lost here, and i'm sure any tutorials, links, help etc would help many more than just me.. |

Try Band Name (dot com), they have a list of musicians by instrument, just click on the "Classifieds" tab towards the top-right of the homepage and then click on the "Category" tab- hey presto, you've got bassists, guitarist, pianists and vocalists.
With regards to copyright and all that. Most session musicians charge an arm and a leg and they can claim performance royalties through the PRS, one to be careful of. Most will sign a release document if requested, but expect a higher price as they will want to compensate for the loss of royalties. _________________ Mmmm... |

Most studios have access to session players. The session players need to be notified in advance and they charge their own fee on top of what the studio charges (usually). They're normally not part of the regular studio staff.
Best place to look on your own? Try looking up a Jazz club in your town and visit some live shows. Spot a player you like and tell them you want them to be on a recording. They'll jump for it. _________________ -K@LR |
