How do you know if you need to change a cardtridge not just the stylus?
Thanks.

Well, assuming that you have two identical carts on your setup, I would swap the stylus' and see if the problem persists. If it does, then that would indicate a problem with the cart.
What type of carts are you using? What is the problem? |

You tried taking the stylus off and blowing in the cart TL? Also try blowing down the tone arm. Sometimes just dust. Happened to me a while a go thankfully i didn't need to buy new one's
Ollieo, a lot depends on the brand and quality. Ortofon are one of the best brands around. Had my concordes 2 year now and still going strong as long as you look after the carts (the connection bit at the back) they should work fine or else it is the stylus. It's worth changing the stylus from time to time. Last thing you want is to turn up at a nightclub with your needles and find out they are just about to fade away |

With Ortofon carts the connection at the tonearm can start wearing (especially if you remove the carts a lot).
An old trick that I learned is to use a pencil eraser to clean the connections. |

The Volume from the deck is between half and a quarter what it should be, although I disconnected and reconnected it a couple of times and it worked again so no problem.
Thanks for all your help.
