Yet another great article
Thanks GrooveJunkie Spot on

Although there are some points that are not correct!

Just one i noticed that has consitantly been reported incorrectly

Garage music although named after the Paradise Garage was actually the New Jersey sound favoured by the likes of Tony Humphries played at the Zanzibar club
and just to confuse matters Larry Levan from the P Garage actually played at zanzibar too.
Funny really Garage may have ended up being called Zanz music if the journalists here had managed to get they're facts a little more correct back in the day!
Just food for thought Laughing

Garage music got it's name from the Paradise Garage, because Larry was known to play his own style of music his way. There was music that came out in the Garage long before it hit any of the other clubs back then.

Secondly, the term "house music" was the slang term for music that you would only hear in the club (hence the "house"), because you would only hear this in the club and never on the radio. Unless a DJ was doing live mixes, there was some music that got no airplay.

Paradise Garage opened in 1977.
Zanzibar didn't open until 1979.

Miles Berger, who opened Zanzibar, was inspired by the Paradise Garage and even contracted Richard Long (who was the architect of the Garage sound system) to design Zanzibar.

I wish...

Back then, the best way to come to The Garage was to travel light.

When you're dancing from 12:00Midnight to 12:00Noon, you leave everything either at home or the car...

I have some sites regarding the Paradise Garage if you want. I wouldn't be surprised if you have the links already, but I'll pm them to you.
