20 years ago in the summer of 1988 House Music exploded on to the shores of the United Kingdom, with a host of clubs and warehouse parties springing up across the country, making headline news in the national press.
I was a mere 22 year old regularly venturing out into Clubland living in London I was blessed with such variety of club to go to but one place I became a regular at was Specturm which was held at Heaven under the arches at Charing Cross on a Monday night.
There were always queues going round the corner of people desperate to get in and jack their body to sound of House Music, they played a host of differing genres including Chicago House, Acid House & Euro Pop all blended together to produce an orgasmic night of unadulterated bliss.
As you walked in there was a wide hallway with alcoves leading off it, complete with seating. Through one of the few entrances to the dance area and once through you’re on the dance floor a rectangle shaped room with a bar at one end and a stage at the other the remainder was the dance floor with the DJ up in the gods in thearea above and just in front of the bar area, with a balcony that ran all along one side.
There were blocks strategically placed around the dance floor and when the anthems played the clubbers went mad to scale the blocks to reach the sky with arms raised.
Across the room shone a green laser fanning out and bouncing off the many reflective items held in the air by many of the regular clubbers.
Digging through the archives of my tunes I pulled out all the tunes I’d bought on the Tuesdays after Spectrum and knocked up the following mix as a Tribute to a fantastic club.

Listen to Tribute to Spectrum

Track Listing:

Raze – Break 4 Love
A Guy Called Gerald – Voodoo Ray
Mr Fingers – Can you feel it
Frankie Knuckles – Your Love
Kraze – The Party
Inner City – Big Fun
Ten City – That’s the way love is
Mory Kante – Ye Ke Ye Ke
Mr Lee – I can’t forget
Bam Bam – Where’s your child
Roxanne Shante – Sharp as Knife
Baby Ford - Oochy Koochy
Marshall Jefferson – Move your body
Mike Dunn & Tyree – Face the Nation
DJ Pierre – Box Energy
Mike Dunn & Tyree – Personal Problems
The Nightwriters – Let the music use you

Hope you all enjoy this one, making it brought back many happy memories.

My real insperation for this one was stumbling across this flyer on the web, which reminded me it's 20 years ago to this month when the club first opened I still have flashbacks of nights there as if it was last week.

This club played a big influence in the music I was exposed to and pretty much shaped my musical tastes.

Excellent flyer!! I've always liked to play sets that reminisce once in a while. If there is one decade that i would personally want to remebmer again and again it would have to be the very late eighties. The tunes youve mixed here definitely take me to back!!! Unforgetable era in music

Great work Urban! :headphone:
