I posted before about mixing two records and the beats being on but bringing the second record in and something happens with the sound. The more I bring in the second record it seemed like the bass from both records where canceling each other out. Well first it only happens with certain songs. Second on the ones that do it bad, I tried lowering both treble and midrange and it does not happen with treb and mid all the way down. I think it has something to do with the midrange. Or maybe my speakers suck or mixer speaker set up is jacked. I dont know, its just getting really frustrating.

Mate back in the day it was the rage to have the beats cancel eachother out lol I can remember a phase when i was Hardcore clubbing and the dj's here played 2 of the same records to have the subway sound and the beats cancel eachother out. Everyone does it at one point and its nothing to really worry about Spot on

Might be a silly question, but did you try cutting the bass of the track that is coming in?

Pretty much what TigerLand said. It is not a bad thing at all. Basically your mix is dead on and the bass kicks cancel themselves out - to put it in simple terms. When this happens to me I embrace it. However if it bothers you somewhat, a simple fix is to barely, barely, barely (...did I say barely?) slow down or speed up the track your mixing in, prefferably with a slight flick of your finger or something. This will make the mix barely off but unnoticable to the human ear and in doing so will also stop the canceling of the bass kicks.

Smile

editted: alot of typos Laughing but now its readable.

Even though its obviously a good thing that the beats are spot on, sometimes i panic cuz i like to know where the beat is and when it aint there i have to purposely get it slightly of point so i know where it is.

I look at it as a bit of fun when the beats cancel eachother out Spot on

What I do is cut the bass of the incoming track slighty, then I switch, cutting the bass slightly to the tune I was mixing into (at the right moment obviously).

Just on that subject smitty, where does everyone have their headphones volume at when at home?

Say 0 is silence obviously and say 10 is middle and 20 is full blast, i mostly have mine sitting at about 11 but sometimes up to maybe 15 lol

It depends really...

Sometimes if I'm really getting into it I'll have it up quite loud, then I'll realise a couple of minutes later just how loud I've got it & turn it back down again for the sake of my eardrums!

Reason i asked cuz i thought maybe i was doing myself damage lol ive noticed sometimes i can mix with the next track sometimes 7,8 or even 9 in the example range above but then there's times when 15 could be normal for me and then the next time i mix the same track i'm back to around 10 again.

I've had it where I'll stop mixing, go to bed or whatever, then the next day, back on the decks, I'll put my headphones on & think 'f*** me... did I really have it up that loud?'
