CARP (or in plain English, the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel) which was appointed by the U.S. to recommendations for royalty rates that webcasters have to pay to artists and copyright holders. Unfortunately, the suggested royalties are beyond reach for many non-profit web sites, which ultimately will lead to the death of many underground music-devoted web sites if the Copyright Office implements the rates.

I am actually taking a class that included a section on copyright laws; it doesn't matter if you make any money off the broadcasting or not. This is precisely WHY the P2P networks are getting so many people into hot water with the recording industry! Many years ago, when I was working at a club here in AZ, the club owners were approached by some guy that said he represented some agency that represented the music artists. He told us that if the music was being played live (by me) then ROYALTIES would have to continue to be paid; the only way around it was to set up a juke box, and they would make thier money that way.
Looking back, I thought the guy was full of shit, you know? I mean, I personally BOUGHT all the music with my own money. Why the hell shouldn't I be allowed to play it where ever the hell I wanted? That's like saying "Well, if you play your music loud enough in your car, it's considered a public performance and you'd better pay up!" It was a glimpse of things that were to comethough, I tell you that much. GREED people. It all boils down to the greed of the record companies.
So anyway, you are allowed to copy the music for your own personal use, but to share it or broadcast it is against the law. Sorry....... _________________ DJ Digital Gem (formerly DJGemini69) |

I think your best bet it to create all your own music, from scratch using synthesizers and your own samples and just all composed by you. Then copyright it all to yourself. You then can perform live whenever you like, remixing your own music. I used to do that all the time at what they used to call "raves". I brought my computer, my synths, my sampler, a drum machine all on stands on stage, fired up the sequencer off the computer, and I even got the computer to load and unload all my samples and my sounds on the old analog synths. Complicated business, but I had a few friends in the music industry which helped me put it all together. I was then, the only techno musician GIRL in my city. Now I suppose girls and guys do this all the time. Now what do they call them? Parties? WEll anyway, I have a question too. My question is:
How can I host with my computer without buying a domain. Basically, I used to buy Dyip, but I'd like to find a way around that, so that my computer is something like a dotcom site. That way, when I host my own music I can use it in a webpage I made which uses a little programming, and it needs a hardwired IP address to work. Please help!
It's for DJing, bascially, but more than that, I'm a multimedia designer and I want to show people some things I can do and my online webpage doesn't cut it.

You know, personally I don't see why I should have to PAY anyone for a domain name. I mean, what gives them the rights to any of it anyway? How do you "own" part of the internet? If the name's already in use that's one thing, but come on!

I'm a little confused by this.....Are you saying you want to set your computer up to be a server? If you have internet access, then you have an IP so I'm not sure what you need. Do you have a web page set up already? If so, you need to set up coding for your music. I can help! _________________ DJ Digital Gem (formerly DJGemini69) |
