This is really starting to bug me as people keep asking me to make them up CD's and I can't figure out how to do it!!!!

I've tried using an output on my mixer into the mic input on the laptop, and I just keep getting a distorted noise.

I've tried adjusting the levels so it's away down at 1 but I still get the noise.

Tried recording it at a lower output on the mixer, same noise.

Tried recording it onto mini-disc first, it's all good. Then onto the computer, same noise.

Tried changing all the settings on the laptop, and I still get the same noise!!

Have anyone got any ideas or suggestions??? How do you all record onto your computer?

All you need mate is a jack to phono 3.5mm a booth output and recording software. The connection should be from the booth output on your mixer (if you have one) to the blue (line in) port on your computer/laptop. Once you have done that check the booth level on your mixer for the right volume using the computer. Spot on

I've already tried this mate!! Still get the same noise, although I am using the shitty pre-loaded recording software. What software do you use?

I see, what noise is it distortion or is it quiet? Try Acoustica Mixcraft or Sony Soundforge. I use Mixcraft search in google you can download a trial version or buy the full. Also check the settings in the software, the EQ settings may be set wrong? Think

It's kind of like distortion but it's not if you know what I mean! Checked all the settings and levels!

Going to try new recording software when I get in as this is the only thing I've not tried yet!!

Something else that could be your problem is the sound card in the laptop. Try upgrading to an external sound card for you laptop that give you full RCA imputs on the sound card. If you have a PCMCIA slot you should look at the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook, and if you have an Express slot you should check out the X-Fi Xtreme Audio for Notebooks

Yeah you really will need to get an external soundcard, possibly a usb soundcard, laptops/desktops onboard soundcards really arent upto recording audio!
