does anybody else just jump straight to the areas u wish to mix with instead of letting a tune run straight through?

i normally practise a fair bit on the breakdown areas

saves a lot of time, gets you sharp for when your ready to do the mix fully

Quite often when I know a track well. But If I don't, I spend a lot of time just playing records. just listening. Not a lot of people do that, just sit back and absorb the music. I suppose it differs with different genres. Bassline music just gets entirely predictable, drum and bass for instance. You pretty much know already where everythings comming in dropping out etc.. not for all d&b records, but you get the point. Not enough DJs take time out just to listen.

easy peeps im just starting out on to the gig side of things.

but i think the choon should be played till near the end.
the worst thing in a club is hearing a choon you like and the dj cuts it short.
i normally try and mix out the last 2 min of a choon.

Personally i like to play the whole record (well upto where i want to mix it) everytime. It helps me capture the energy of the mix.
