Just got sent this through on email! looks pretty fresh...
DR LX PATERSON BRINGS US AN EPIC DOUBLE ALBUM OF TROJAN FAVOURITES, PLUS A BRAND NEW PIECE OF CONTEMPORARY DUB…
As we near the close of a very special anniversary year for one of the music industry's greatest and most colourful legacies, there are many highlights to look back on. Jonny Greenwood, Super Furry Animals, Fatboy Slim, Mr Lee Perry himself, have all dug deep into their memories and into the cavernous vaults of the Trojan archive to give us a modern slice of reggae history. With reggae, ska, dancehall and dub providing such a rich musical history, each release has perfectly reflected the musical learning’s and idiosyncrasies of it's composer, taking us on a truly varied and inspired walk through some of contemporary music's most influential records. This release is no exception to the rule...
Bringing electronic dub straight out of Battersea, The Orb's 'Little Fluffy Clouds' soundtracked a generation of post-acid house ravers and this (along with the genius 'Higher Than The Sun' by Primal Scream, mixed by The Orb) became their defining 'pop' moment. It is however the ultimate ‘Towers Of Dub’ and the mighty 17 minute epic dub journey that is 'Blue Room', featuring on their U.F.Orb album, that signifies this bands true love of the deep sounds of dub; a mysterious sonic movement that reverberated from Jamaica into the front rooms of thousands of
spaced out smokers all over the world.
The Orb are what we might call pioneers of ambient, a modern sound of dub. It is therefore no surprise that Dr Lx Paterson brings us an epic double album of favourites, not only featuring warm, mellow classics from artists such as Alton Ellis, John Holt,
Ken Boothe, King Tubby and the ethereal Marcia Griffiths but also three unreleased brand new pieces of contemporary dub composed by the band themselves in collaboration with Mad Professor. 'Beyond The Realms Of The Orb', 'Hold In The Sky' and '9.27 To Norbury' are released exclusively on this double album and perfectly compliment the warmth and sunshine sounds of some of the Jamaican superstars that feature on this must have record.
'I'll Be Black' is a work of love from one of the most memorable stars of ambient music and is essential listening for Trojan lovers all over the world, space and beyond... |
