Sasha makes a couple of interesting points, one being about digital mixing becoming a bigger part of club culture. I agree that we will be seeing more dj's moving towards mixing mp3's. Although I'm still yet to meet a dj who has totally ditched the vinyl for the mp3's! Everyone I know who dj's still uses vinyl...
Also, I like the idead of more live bands playing along side Dj's, brings the event alive.. if any of you have ever had the chance to experience dj's playing along side live acts then you will know that it rocks & I hope that we see this more & more on the dance music club scene..

I think if you were to speak to these DJ's 5 years ago they would have told you that nothing beats the wheels of steel!!!
I personally love mixing on a pair of technics, the truth is the future will be digital - the guys at the top are now commercial by nature. Most of Europe has been using CD mixing (which I still hate) and it does have some positives.
The plus side of it is that you don't have to carry your chunky record bag around with you (the most horrible part of being a dj). I am sure you will see indepedants still make vinyl because for the time being their is still a demand for it. The best thing about MP3's is that you can get the tune you want 24 hours a day in most cases and you will never scrath it;)
It is a lot nicer when you get a new promo sent to you in the post, you open it up look at the record and then take it out of it's sleeve with pride.
You will never get that feeling by looking at your inbox.
One day we can look forward to mixing endless supplies of music from all parts of the world. With the MP3 mixing market I hope we will see more underground and independants linking up with eastern flavours.
The good news is that small will become the new big and small established Internet fronts will be able to get their music out to a global audience. This puts controll back in the hands of the artists which in my opinion will give hope to a lot of talented people.

--- guys if only i had a chance to perform in the DJ booth --- maybe I will start to play the circuit and give those lovely people their wow factor.
I think DJ's that do risky sets and perfect the art can add the WOW factor to the big stage. |

| While Dj's dont really "create" the music on the spot, vinyl is like the instrument of the Dj that is imperfect, its flawed, but thats the beauty of it. Just the overall improvement in technology in every facet of life...convenience, even better quality, in exchange for tradition...but the potential is exciting.... |

It's got to the stage now, that it doesnt matter what you 'prefer'. It doesn't matter whether you stand by vinyl through the tough digital age. The facts are that times are changing. We are evolving whether you like it or not. You can either be a moaning one living in the past, or you can move forward with the world at your side. Even though there is enough evidence to support the fact that vinyl may one day cease to be manufactured, I still think it will carry on. Because it is still here. The fact is a lot of clubs REQUIRE DJ's to be able to mix CD's. Its got nothing to do with being cool or not. Trading in your vinyl might be your only chance of breaking into where you want to go.
Im a vinyl head as much as you lot are, I've got tons of it. I will continue to buy vinyl until my dying day but I will move forward with the digital age. My advice, go to Turnky and try out the new Technics CD turntable. Think about it, if anyone knows anything about spinning plastic then its Technics. They have truly met in the middle with this.
So debate it all you want but its not about personal preference anymore. Musical Technology is moving forwards, choose to go with it before you get left behind.......

| i agree ~ cd decks are great. We need to move forward and stop trying to hold on to vinyl or at least grasp the new technology that is embracing music scene. Vinyl will always be with us though. |

There is so much old good music on vinyl so i cant really see them stop making vinyl-decks for some time wich probably means we will have vinyl around for a long time still  .. actually decks sell more now than they did a few years back (even way more i think).. and all clubs I've played at have both CD+vinyl , it's just some of the really mainstream clubs over her in sweden taht only have CD-players, you know the kind of clubs that just play top40 stuff..
it's all good i guess, each to his own

Yup - vinyl is synonymous with DJ dance culture.. I don't honestly think we will ever see vinyl disappear - not for a long time anyway.

not too change the subject too much but in the past couple a months i have seen alot more people using laptops at clubs. even one extreme ive seen someone using ipods and they were going on about getting an interface that looks a bit like a cd deck that connects onto your ipod.

It's all well and good having CD/MP3 mixers, but, isn't it all getting a little too automated? I'm a totally shit DJ and would much rather struggle away getting a pair of decks singing away together than pressing some button and having it all put in time for me!! Decks are like an instrument, you can totally f**k a tune up, manipulate different effects to compliment the main tune, back-spins, scratching, or play around with the surround sound and watch people fall over.
Vinyl definately has more pose value- prime example: Eyeball Paul in Amnesia (Kevin and Perry), imagine doing hand-tricks with MP3 players or CD's- you'd be forever dropping them!! For a start, vinyl, it's a damn site heavier than CD's and one MP3 player with 40 gigs-worth of music, what would your roadie do?
