I think you just hit the nail on the head fella. I read the entire of this post because its a debate I take interest in. What does it matter what you spin, as long as the music coming out the other end is doin the same job... The crowd love it, then your doin the right thing... 1 person mentioned "pose factor" if thats what you care about more than pleasing a crowd and doin what your paid (well in some cases) to do, then so be it.

My oppinion is, embrace the digital generation, it makes sense. if you like using vinyl then get something like serato or m-audio's Torq. If seeing the wave forms bothers you, turn them off and use just your ears.

hey all, this is the debate of the decade, vinyl vs cd's. I have been purchasing vinyl for the past few years, and been a bedroom dj for about the same amount of time. I have used cd's as well, but i definitley prefer vinyl. This is not what i am here to debate though. Recently in my towns dj scene there has been an outbreak of laptop dj's. I am not talking about serato, I mean ableton and moreso traktor. The Click Autosync click play mixing. There is a few groups of them, generally consisting of 2 members, in which they huddle around a laptop and play there freshly blogged tracks. I really do not agree with this. Am I just an idealist or is this a common despice to all involved in the vinyl vs cdj debate.

Its bad enough clubs just playing cd's already mixed for club nights but just laptop mixing is another reason i will stay with vinyl mixing Spot on

yea man it sucks. I have been like practicing my mixing for a couple of years, trying to perfect it before i get a show, and these guys decide one night that they want to be dj live (if thats what you can call traktor) and get slots within a few weeks. It is honestly so dissapointing.

Vinyl is a so completely different tp mix with. You can't beat getting new records out of the sleve and playing them on your decks. Also you now exactly where you are on the record, and what record it is by the picture on the front. Especially when you have got thousnds. Cd's do my head in and Mp3's. But it is very true that you have to keep up with technology or you get left behind. I am 35 and decided to go back to College and do music technolgy, just so I could start making my own tunes and so I could learn more about the digital age. I have now got cdj's and my decks that i would never ever get rid of. Cdj's have lots of advantages- the main one is my Mum could mix on them.

Dj'ing is not about the hardware you use but about having skill's to create atmosphere, entertaining the crowd and keeping the floor moving with quality tunes. Vinyl or cd's it doesnt matter. if you have ever been to a proper club you will notice no one gives a toss what format the dj in using, they want to be entertained mate. If you do then your not a real dj or clubber. Simple!

I knew Id get somone with that comment :signlol: come on I just wanted to see what reaction I got, I 100% agree dude, me personaly I only use vinyl, this is due to the fact that Ive had technic's for so long plus I love the feel of vinyl, I will use a cd player to play my own track's, but yer I remember seeing Venetian Snares a few years back in Liverpool @ Jasboff, he was using a dodgy pair of Kam cd players but it was one of the bast set's Ive ever seen, so yer it dosn't matter what you use as long as you rock it. :headphone:

Infact its fair to say on every dance forum known to man there's atleast one thread on CD's and Vinyl lol

I think the reason so many of us Vinyl heads have hostility towards CDJ's is because kids are getting hold of them and facts are facts it is easier to mix with CDJ's so yes dj's have moved from Vinyl to CD's but its not those dj's we are hostile towards its the kids and the radio presenters who decide to buy decks for the first time and get CDj's and all of a sudden become quote on quote DJ's when infact any good dj will tell you that you really should master Vinyl mixing to be a real dj first.

That should make sense Spot on

At times i have thought about getting atleast 1 CDj but then i think how great it is to mix Vinyl and to hunt through the collection and give the vinyl a wipe and place the needle on the record... man i love that and i know you old vinyl users loved that too at one point
