Yeah I know.
There was some comment previously about phones, then cordless phones, then cell phones.. and innovations in technology and what have you but...
If you want to hear a guitar, you have to play a guitar.
An Electric Guitar is not the same as an acoustic guitar.
Nothings really wrong with either forms, and regardless of where technology goes and whatever new innovations there are, the most genuine acoustic guitar sounds will come from actual acoustic guitars.
And the warmest analog sounds will come from vinyl.
The crispest digital sounds will pop off a CD.
And personally, I feel that birds don't chirp in digital and my ears don't process 1's and 0's and aren't compatible with a USB cable.
It's nice to venture into the world of digital, but I'd like to keep the bulk of my sets on vinyl.
I mean seriously, how can you know where your going if you don't keep track of where you've been?
Did that make any sense or am I that archaic?

when you mentioned the guitars… an acuostic sound is always better then an electric sound… whether its a piano or whatever… same thing with playing a record regardless the genre… stevie wonder sounds better on vinyl

I have to admit that my outlook has changed greatly regarding CD mixing over the years. 10 years ago I despised DJ's who used CD's. 5 years ago I had learned to accept the new technology, but still refused to use any of it.
Today I play almost 100% CD. I still collect some old skool bits on vinyl, but I haven't bought any new vinyl in months. To me, it just doesn't make sense anymore to do so.
-Rising price of vinyl + rising shipping cost + weak US dollar = around $16.00 per vinyl.
-When producers send me tracks I can burn and play the same day, as opposed to having a dubplate cut for $40.00.
Before anyone else mentions the piracy thing, I can honestly say that I have legally obtained EVERY but of music on my hard drive.
CD mixing has also opened up a lot of creative possibilties for me as well.
Vinyl has just lost all practicallity for me personally.
I still haven't completely accepted the whole "laptop" DJ thing, though. Personally, I would still rather have the physical control of the mixing as opposed to running a piece of software. |

i agree with what you've just said… i reckon cd's a great! i have no real argument towards it. i'm paying $18 / $20 (aus) per vinyl at the moment and yeh it does add up to quite a bit compared to $1 or so per song on beatport or wherever. as for the "virtual dj" world… ive been there and done that… i dont find it attractive but again its useful becasue then you dont have to worry about having cd's laying around or anything like that and you have ALL your tracks there in front of you. i just dont trust it freeing n stuff. it happened to me once and i wudnt go back to it.

i did that last week… thats the biggest spend on vinyl ive done… cuda gone 300 easily but contained myself

I have just sold my SL1210's
And my CDJ200's & Numark mixer
All gone on ebay... 
But i've just bought a pair of CDJ800's & a DJM400 
And a numark TTUSB so I can rip vinyl still.
I agree with everything said above but the 800's are amazing and I wasn't buying any new vinyl - just old stuff
So now I can rip it and then flog it again on FleaBay

Yeah it was in 1949 when you were born...
I finally got my new 800's set up at the weekend, went out and got mashed then pissed the neighbours off by playing from about 3 till 6 in the morning on em hehe
I sent my djm400 back and got an Allen & Heath Xone32 cos I didn't like it - they're tiny, didn't like it at all - Xone32 =

| I am a big fan of the fact that be it Vinyl or digital when you mix the music with a live act.... such as a live horn or percussion group it brings the crowd into the mixing and makes it more alive...... DJ's are sound spectrum manipulators...... Be it Vinyl or MP3 the mission is to make that groove happen where everyone gets lost in and forgets for just that moment that nothing matters but that deep bass and that feeling you get when you move to that perfect groove..... |
