Just had a thought.....

I know this is getting WAY ahead of myself, BUT if I ever played at a public event would I be able to use my CD's I have purchased over the years??? Lots are mixed (e.g. Gatecrasher, MOS Annuals) so would I be breaching copy right or something????

Should I start buying my music unmixed anyway to avoid this and to make it easier to mix tracks because they will have the mixing "head" and "tail"???

Like I said im getting WAY ahead of myself...but just a thought Think

Like Spitfire said. I listened to the tracks and saw when the previous/next track were mixing in. Marked those points so as not to use them and then worked with the main bulk of the track. But its more difficult as your trying to mix in fully going tracks so you have to meticulously work out where to mix so as not to get some horrible clash of the 2 tracks!

All the tracks in those mixes i posted up are from mix CD's with the exception of Salva Mea.

So you deffinatey cant do that then???

Bummer......

So im going to have to buy pretty much all my music again in unmixed format :z: Thats going to cost a fortune! Shocked
I might have to illegally d/load some....which considering I have already legally purchased the tracks isnt really breaking copyright!

Also....what about my Artist albums like "In My memory"....they are unmixed but then it says not for public broadcast Think

Its lucky i asked about this now

As far as i know you CANT re-broadcast the single tracks but if they are in a mix then its totaly legal Spot on
Reason i know that cuz i remember a conversation about ilegal MP3s and CD decks and theres a law in or is coming in that because of ilegal downloading your going to need proof that you own the original CD's or you have the original 12" you copyed the MP3 from. But somewhere in that conversation someone said that single tracks that you put out is ilegal but if those single tracks are in a mix then its totaly legal Spot on

Ah...thats not so bad then.

So the fact I have tracks like "For an Angel" and "Synaesthesia" on numerous mixed CD's means its alright i have d/loaded the tracks from somewhere without paying because essentailly i have already paid for them......?

....and im guessing its deffers a no no on using the tracks from mix CD's :z:

No just because you have the tracks mixed on CD's from say Ministry Of Sound it does mean you own the original MP3.
It means say you bought Freemasons - Uninvited on CD then you can re-burn that to a CD full of other MP3's youv burned from other CD's for a tracklist if your djing one night. If you have the mixed version then definetly not doesnt count as the original MP3.
Now obviously i doubt people are actualy going to go to clubs to check dj's CD's to see if they have the originals but thats what i remember of the conversation.

Ah...I think I understand. To be honest it so sketchy this area in what is and what is not legal :z: I have decided that there is no WAY im going to buy all my thousands of tracks again though. Im just drwing up a list of what ones I really like and will d/load those unmixed.

What I meant about not being able to use tracks from mix cd's was that you had said earlier that you couldnt use someone elses tracks from thier mix...plus from what you said above, about having a track on a mix CD doesnt mean you have the original copy....sounds like a deffers no no.

Like I said though....this is getting way ahead of myself...I havent even got my kit yet  Lucky I found out now though. Plus chances of me actually playing in public are pretty small at the mo so im probs just gunna be doing it for fun so it doesnt matter if i use the CDs that are mixed!

best way man… once you get your rig, go download tunes from beatport or something or go out an buy the vinyl… you'll notice the original mixes and / or remixes are around the 6 - 8min mark average. thats your club mix. so when on the hunt for music (if its MP3) look out for "original mix" on most tracks and then check the time out. im pritty sure most tunes on beatport are 12" mixes anyway
