hello all,
i did own a pair of numark decks a few years back and learnt how to beat match and the basics. However i have been watching a few vids on sites such as youtube and google videos and noticed that the top dj's are all using cd decks now. They all appear to be playing two cds at a time for one tune??? Is one cd a drum loop and the other a sample???
If anyone knows and coulld share there wisdom that would be great.

ps.. incase you wanted to check out the dj's i was on about they are axwell, tiesto etc...

Hmmm big Dj's like Tiesto, Axwell, Steve Angello etc. tend to play "exclusive" tracks that nobody has heard of. I'm really sure they won't try and mix multiple tracks together......I only know this by going to many of thier events Smile

yea thats probably the case. I watched a dj in a club where i live on cd decks and he uses a lot of acapella's over tunes, sounds good although he does kill it sometimes by doing it too much lol Sad

PIONEER CDJ1000'S and a lot of their imatation spin-offs allow the dj to sample and loop with amazing accuracy, when used in conjuction with effects and depending on the mixer it is possible to have say, a 4 bar drum loop playing and the dj just adding loads of effects, accapellas and samples to the mix making it soun like a song.

I suppose , in a way it's a new breed of turntablism that sits well with most dance music instead of hip hop and hardcore.

With 2 cdj1000's and a djm800 mixer the results can be out of this world with whole new song being born live in front of you.

Eddie Halliwell dj's like this all the time, and also incorporates Ableton Live into his set. I saw PVD at the Arches in Glasgow recently and he was using 2 laptops, 1 with Ableton and 1 with what looked like Pro-Tools connected to a midi contoller and that was over and above the normal dj kit!!

Here is a tutorial video showing you how to use the Pioneer kit in this way.
