Mine
1.First of hows things, hows life treating you these days?
I'm good, had a very good Christmas and i'm just chillin.Got to get in shape though as the food over the past few days has done some damage lol
2.How long into the scene did you get Decks/Turntables?
I got into Dance music late but my brother was well into it.It was a good 2 years although i had borrowed a mates decks some of the time before that and then i bought his of him as he bought Vestax.
3.What were your first Decks/Turntables?
Soundlab Beltdrives
4.What was the first dance record you bought?
I clearly have in my head the first dance record i ever bought was Bass Generator presents MIC - Bounce Bounce Bounce. Now i could be wrong as i also bought Davie Forbes - Pyhcotic Mayhem E.P around the same time but thats the only one i can remember buying first and still have to this day...oh and still sounds great
5.I'm sure theres many but name 2 nights in your memory that stand out and will stay with you forever, either as a Dj/P.A or Clubber?
Charley Hegartys was one and it was an M8 night,Battle Of The Planets and Bass Generator and TechnoTrance and a few others were playing but 2 of many things that made that night special was being on the dance floor and the whole place going mad to Dye Witness,Nightraver & Mc Cyclone - The Future and Ultrasonic - Obsession...best time of my clubbing life right there
And the 2nd is a draw between Circus Circus,Kilwaughter House and Exit 15,Kilwaughter House had the legend that was Paul Elstak and i got to meet him at the end of the night and the music was pure Hardcore and some Gabba.Exit 15 was a great place with great people and the music every weekend without fail was very good but hard to get it down to the one night.Circus Circus i remember 1 night in particular the drugs squad busted the place and kicked everyone out as we walked past a police camera all drunk or of our faces.Instead of going home a few hundred of us walked to a big carpark and drivers put on their radios and there we were a few hundred people dancing away in a carpark about half 9 at night...amazing night that
6.Whats the best and worst thing about being a Dj?
Best is people saying your mixes are good and also hearing a car drive past and your mixes are pumping out of them
Worst is keeping up and having to buy the records regular when money can be tight lol
7.Whats your take on the whole *Oldskool* nights and events these days, good or bad thing for the future?
I mix new and oldskool tunes so i stick to the music that got me into dance music or even got me into dance music this 2nd time around.Ive been to a few oldskool nights and it does get a bit much with the same handful of tunes being played to death but ah well.
8.Whats that one tune you'll always add to a set?
That is a tough one but probably The Thrillseekers - Synasthesia
9.Whats the best club youv ever been to and why?
Charley Hegartys without a doubt,i hit that place every Saturday night in Bangor. They dont and wont make them like that anymore
10.Whats the maddest thing youv ever done after a night out?
A few things come to mind both good and bad but id say the carpark night was up there as the maddest with the whole area surrounded by police and there we all were not caring and just dancing.
11.Dj wise, whos your hero? And who sticks out for you these days?
Hero is Davie Forbes as he knew exactly what to mix and exactly what to release on 12".These days its Aly & Fila as they just release great euphoric bouncing tunes and thats what i love to listen to and mix.
12.If you could remix one tune past or present, what would it be?
Ive done this questionaire before on an Oldskool site me and Sharpshooter were apart of and my answer is still the same... Ultrasonic - Love Me Right
13.What in your opinon makes a good tune?
The break and kick in, i love huge breaks with emotion or piano and a big build up for the kick in.
14.Of all the events these days and past events, where would your dream Dj slot be at?
Rezerection! Now i know its been revived but i mean the old Rezerection as they were a HUGE deal and i sadly never got to experience one.
15.Favourite curse word?
Fck
And Finaly
16.Your in the middle of a Mix/Performance and a guy keeps reaching out to shake your hand, your nice about it and happily shake his hand.He tries it again and hits the deck arm and the needle leaves the record...What do you do?
I was going to say *tell him to fck off* but we've all been there when we've wanted to shake a dj's hand, ok fair enough ive never went to the extent of hitting a needle but i'd just point to the fella and say to the crowd he hit the needle and let them deal with him _________________ NorthStone |

1.First of hows things, hows life treating you these days?
Can't complain really.
2.How long into the scene did you get Decks/Turntables?
I already had decks by the time I got involved with the rave scene in 94, as I had been messing about with hip hop and reggae for a few years prior.
3.What were your first Decks/Turntables?
Well used Technics SL1200's.
4.What was the first dance record you bought?
Pretty sure it was an early Omni Trio release.
5.I'm sure theres many but name 2 nights in your memory that stand out and will stay with you forever, either as a Dj/P.A or Clubber?
Return To Hardcore Chicago and Fantasia 2 are the first to come to mind.
6.Whats the best and worst thing about being a Dj?
Best: Playing for a musically educated and up for it crowd.
Worst: "Don't you have anything that we can dance to"???
7.Whats your take on the whole *Oldskool* nights and events these days, good or bad thing for the future?
I am truly a lover of old skool, but IMHO the upsurge of old skool nights could be an indicator of a lack of new ideas and innovation within the scene.
8.Whats that one tune you'll always add to a set?
Matty G "West Coast Rocks" Caspa remix
9.Whats the best club youv ever been to and why?
Never been a big fan of "clubs"
10.Whats the maddest thing youv ever done after a night out?
I'm not going to touch this one.
11.Dj wise, whos your hero? And who sticks out for you these days?
Currently, N-Type is the one that I am most looking forward to seeing.
Back in my hardcore days, Brisk and Hellfish were my biggest heroes.
12.If you could remix one tune past or present, what would it be?
Hmmm...I've toyed around with the idea if remixing Omni Trio's "Renegade Snares before, but I would likely never attempt it, as I could never pay proper homage to the original.
13.What in your opinon makes a good tune?
Intricate programing. Heavy bassline. For me the best tracks have a definite "vibe" to them, usually conjuring up a certain image in my mind while listening.
14.Of all the events these days and past events, where would your dream Dj slot be at?
Currently, either FWD in the UK or Shift in the US. If I could go back time, I would have loved to have a shot at one of the massive raves in the UK in the early 90's.
15.Favourite curse word?
Easily f*ck, due to it's versatility.
And Finaly
16.Your in the middle of a Mix/Performance and a guy keeps reaching out to shake your hand, your nice about it and happily shake his hand.He tries it again and hits the deck arm and the needle leaves the record...What do you do?
I have actually been in this situation, and have found that the best solution is to laugh it off. |

1.First of hows things, hows life treating you these days?
could be better - today I have a toothace, last week I had a cold and it's done something to my hearing oh and I'm skint, but I'm alive so that's good!
2.How long into the scene did you get Decks/Turntables?
I got my decks in 96 but had been messing around on my mates kit since about 84 and first started clubbing in 86
3.What were your first Decks/Turntables?
technics SL1210 mk2
4.What was the first dance record you bought?
as a child the first tunes I recall buying was Van McCoy - Do the Hustle & Donna Summer - I feel love, back in the 70's. when I first started clubbing the first tunes I recall buying were Royal House - Can you feel it & Raze - Break 4 Love
5.I'm sure theres many but name 2 nights in your memory that stand out and will stay with you forever, either as a Dj/P.A or Clubber?
as a clubber my first night at Spectrum at Heaven in London in 88, Inner City played live, there was smoke and lazers everywhere and it was amazing & Sunrise @ the gasworks in south London in 89 the police raided it but couldn't stop it there were far too many people there.
As a DJ I used to play at a bar in West London called the Ra Bar everyone in the bar danced all night long it had an amazing buzz, but one night stands out when a girl stripped off her top right in front of me and then spent the night bouncing away in front of me, even though my mixing went AWOL everyone kept dancing.
6.Whats the best and worst thing about being a Dj?
Worst things
long drives to some events,
turning up to find one of the decks is knackerd,
the next DJ hovering behind you 1/2 hour before they are due on,
the idot that asks for something like abba
humping big boxes of tunes about, I had a hernia a couple of years ago through lifting boxes of tunes
the idiot who thinks they are in the know and asks for a tune that would never fit with your style and thinking they are clever because you don't have what they ask for.
I once had some girl ask me if I had any steps, I told her I had a Ladder strapped to the side of the van and would that do? she told me to F*** off - Nice!
best things
telling people you don't do requests.
getting guest listed to other clubs
being bought drinks by complete strangers
being paid for doing something I would honestly do for nothing
spending hours in record shops seeking out tunes
7.Whats your take on the whole *Oldskool* nights and events these days, good or bad thing for the future?
it depends what you mean by old skool, I'm a child of the 70's so disco is my old skool or Acid House from the late 80's, I might dig out the odd tune but never a complete night, I look to the future not the past although the past gives me fond memories and my favorite past time is digging through the archives
8.Whats that one tune you'll always add to a set?
None - I always flick through my racks and pull out a selection of tunes I can imagine myself playing on the night and select from those on the night over the years certain tunes kept finding their way into my boxes
Geraldine Hunt - You can't fake the feeling, became a bit of a theme tune at one night I used to play regularly at
9.Whats the best club youv ever been to and why?
Spectrum at Heaven, London, it was the emergence of Acid House in the UK in the summer of 88, it was the first club I'd danced alll Night at, it had loads of alcoves and and lots of smiley people and it was on a Monday
10.Whats the maddest thing youv ever done after a night out?
Talking Bollox whilst sat on top of a lion statue in trafalger square at 4 am and amassing a crowd below and holding audince with them for about half an hour until the police came and told me to get down.
11.Dj wise, whos your hero? And who sticks out for you these days?
I was a big fan of the stuff Danny Rampling used to play
12.If you could remix one tune past or present, what would it be?
Liz Torres - the way you make me feel
13.What in your opinon makes a good tune?
A punchy snare, a simple bass, a groovy meoldy played on a fender rhodes and a soulful vocal
14.Of all the events these days and past events, where would your dream Dj slot be at?
Shelter, NYC
15.Favourite curse word?
Bollox
And Finaly
16.Your in the middle of a Mix/Performance and a guy keeps reaching out to shake your hand, your nice about it and happily shake his hand.He tries it again and hits the deck arm and the needle leaves the record...What do you do?
I say " you c*** , what are you doing, enough is enough now f*** off" and then replace the needle on the record roughly towards the end of a break, hopefully only a few notice and he gets the message and yes something like this has happened to me a few times and it's a standard response I say without thinking _________________ Life's too short - Be Free! - Be Happy! |

1.First of hows things, hows life treating you these days?
All good man my family are healthy and happy and djing and radio are all going good !
2.How long into the scene did you get Decks/Turntables?
3 weeks if that !
3.What were your first Decks/Turntables?
these really rubbish plastic belt drive soundlabs that i could only play 33's on one and 45's on the other as the pitch controls were wrecked lol
4.What was the first dance records you bought?
Inner City - Let it Rain
Human Resourse - Dominator
GCG - Voodoo Ray
5.I'm sure theres many but name 2 nights in your memory that stand out and will stay with you forever, either as a Dj/P.A or Clubber?
Hard one as I've been lucky enough to have so many,As a DJ it would have to be Sequins in Blackpool NYE 1994, 600 capacity with 1300 people in it - just an amazing night as I had been resident there with Fever all year and it just topped off 1994 in style.
Any of the Helter Skelter nights mid to late 90's, Micky Finn and Hype were just awesome!
Also Mcing for Top Buzz is a defo stand out moment and djing back to back with Hixxy in my mates front room was a memorable experience too lol.
6.Whats the best and worst thing about being a Dj?
BEST - making a club go mad with your selection
WORST - shit monitors and mc's that don't breath!
7.Whats your take on the whole *Oldskool* nights and events these days, good or bad thing for the future?
IMO these nights are not aimed @ the future. It was a moment in time that can never be re-captured , the feeling of unity and togetherness topped with the elation of it all was somthing we had and can never be taken away from us, but trying to recreate it is a tall order. these nights serve a purpose as younger generations can be exposed to the dj's and tunes again but unless you fill the club with 30 somthings all wanting to re live there youth they can be a bit of a wash out. I love the tunes from back then and in my heart i wish it could be recreated even just once you know, but in my experience they can be a bit of a wash out.
8.Whats that one tune you'll always add to a set?
DRUM + BASS = CAPONE - FRIDAY
OLD SKOOL = TOP BUZZ - LIVING IN DARKNESS
9.Whats the best club youv ever been to and why?
Bowlers - Manchester or Sanctuary - Milton Keynes - both were awesome venues.
10.Whats the maddest thing youv ever done after a night out?
After Djing 1997's NYE and having a heafty amount of the finest goods the scene has to offer I was staying at a hotel with my then girlfreind and decided to go down the hall for a shower armed with only a sponge dressed in only my boxer shorts. I rolled back into the room 20 mins later dressed again only in my boxer shorts but armed with a chicken fillet burger in my hand. According to reception i wandered out the doors with my sponge and came back with a burger? It was minus god knows what deegrees and i was charging down to kentucky for some reason at silly oclock in the morning to exchange my sponge for a burger in only my boxer shorts. needless to say a rethink on what i consumed on nights out was taken after this lol
The people in kentucky must have thought WTF and just did as i said to get rid of me
11.Dj wise, whos your hero? And who sticks out for you these days?
Hero's Micky Finn for crowd hyping ,Ratty for mixing and Grooverider for selection and versatilty.
Nowadays Mr Andy C who is all the above rolled into 1
12.If you could remix one tune past or present, what would it be?
MANIX - FEEL REAL GOOD
13.What in your opinon makes a good tune?
Something that never dates and tickles my sack everytime i here it.
14.Of all the events these days and past events, where would your dream Dj slot be at?
ONE NATION / WORLD DANCE
1-3 slot would be fine lol
15.Favourite curse word?
Shit
And Finaly
16.Your in the middle of a Mix/Performance and a guy keeps reaching out to shake your hand, your nice about it and happily shake his hand.He tries it again and hits the deck arm and the needle leaves the record...What do you do?
Stop the music , ask the MC to announce what has happened and ask if anyone else would like to shake my hand before i proceed and make a joke of it, this would switch the whole scenario around in my favour and the set would definatly be remembered even if it was just for that, then drop somthing extra special and start the night off again job done!
Thankyou and good night _________________ MANCHESTER DRUM AND BASS SOULJAH !

TRUGROOVEZ FORUM MEMBERS QUESTIONAIR
1.First of hows things, hows life treating you these days?
Life is peachy.
2.How long into the scene did you get Decks/Turntables?
About a year or so.
3.What were your first Decks/Turntables?
2 Numark TT-100
4.What was the first dance record you bought?
LOL I dont remember. My friend went to the club one night and a guy was selling an assortment of house and DnB. I told him to pick me up 2 DnB records. One of them was a Dara tune. I got rid of them after a few days and got some house records. Never was into DnB all that much to begin with.
5.I'm sure theres many but name 2 nights in your memory that stand out and will stay with you forever, either as a Dj/P.A or Clubber?
(This is from another interview I did with a similar question. I didnt want to retype it so I am copy/pasting it)
Well, I've spun at some awesome events. I can't really name just one or two. Hell, not even three. There's been some pretty insane moments at some events and just fantastic feelings at others. I feel if I chose one out of the many, it wouldn't be doing the others justice. So basically, ill go with the most memorable moment.
Yes, this was at Premiere but it was too funny too forget. My friend and I are tagging 3 for 3. I just got done with my 3 and he gets on. Mixes out and then his next track has a hi synth that hits on every first and third bass kick. After the first breakdown of the track, the fog machine went off and the place filled with smoke. Not 1 minute later there was another sound that was hitting on the second and fourth bass kick, perfectly, that wasn't part of the track. He and I looked at each other puzzled. "What the hell is that sound? Eh, who cares, it sounds pretty cool!"
Turns out, the fog machine set off the fire alarm in the club and the fire alarms beeping was perfectly in synch with the track playing. It even lasted through the next breakdown. What made it awesome, though, was that everyone in the crowd stopped dancing and looked at us. Then they looked up and all around. I remember this perfectly, almost all of them at the same time realized what the sound was and they started cheering VERY LOUDLY! I immediately got goose bumps and a HUGE smile when I saw about 800 people cheer at the same time when they figured out the fire alarm was going off to the beat of the track playing. Good shit, good shit.
6.Whats the best and worst thing about being a Dj?
Best: being able to listen to good music on a great system while a crowd of people cheer and put their hands in the air. The feeling of excitement and burst of energy I get when I stand behind some turntables.
Worst: Crappy promoters. Crappy club owners. Someone requesting hip hop on a house night then after telling them sorry they ask for something with a good beat that they can dance too. Word?
7.Whats your take on the whole *Oldskool* nights and events these days, good or bad thing for the future?
Its nice to remember the older tracks. I like them for the most part but again, new music is what drives the scene. Old school nights are great. In my opinion one every now and then is good enough but the music is much different than it was 10+ years ago. I would much more enjoy a set that had both old and new tracks than just all old school.
8.Whats that one tune you'll always add to a set?
I have too many 'favorite' tracks. Some I can drop in a set while others wont go with what I am playing at the time. If you change the question to "Whats that one tune that you'll never take out of your crate?" Well, I can definitely answer that one. ;)
9.Whats the best club youve ever been to and why?
(edit: I had to change my other reply because I answered to hastely and rememebered this night after I already made the post)
WOW! How could I forget! Eden in Ibiza, Spain. The main dancefloor is shaped like a bowl with steps going down to the middle. There are pillows all along the steps. The music was bangin with the electro sounds. Place was packed. My friend and I are standing on one of the stairs sipping drinks and bobbing our head to the beat wacthing the girls dance and the crowd and everything when....a pillow flies from one end of the bowl to the other. WTF? So a few seconds later, it flies from that end back to the other side. Then back again followed by a second one. Within seconds almost every pillow was being flung left and right, up and down. My friend pegged me with one and I barely felt it. I picked it up and it was soooooo sooooooft. I wanted to take it but instead threw it as hard as I could to the other side of the bowl and it disappeared in the crowd. A big guy that looked like a bouncer came and started picking them all up. He was taking them out of peoples hands and everything. Everyone boo'd him as he left the dancefloor with about 20 pillows mashed between each arm. About 2 minutes later he is at a balcony type thing over looking the dancefloor and proceeds to throw every single pillow back into the crowd. He must have hit like 20 people in the face. Everyone was going wild and the massive pillow fight started up again. It was quite possibly the most fun I ever had in a club.
10.Whats the maddest thing youve ever done after a night out?
Haha, you dont want to know. I wouldnt be able to post it here anyways.
11.Dj wise, whos your hero? And who sticks out for you these days?
A few years ago I would have said Dave Seaman. Now? I dont have one. It was nice following in someones footsteps and style years ago but after melding my own style and sound, I dont really have a favorite at all. I like alot of DJ's but dont have any particular favorites.
12.If you could remix one tune past or present, what would it be?
Way Out West - Stealth
I just need the accopella and its on!
13.What in your opinion makes a good tune?
This is a pretty broad topic to me. Since I like a huge array of genres, I cant really say what makes a track good over another track that is not. I dont like minimal house but at the same time, there are good minimal tracks out there. Same with electro, trance, dnb, breaks. If the track has vocals, it depends on if the vocals are cheeseball or if they mesh well with the track. Good beat with intricate percussion, to me, can really drive a track. Nice strong bassline, awesome breakdowns and build ups. The list goes on and on. If the track is good, its good. Oh I almost forgot, crowd reaction is a big one too. I have only half liked some tracks but played them anyways and the crowd LOVED them. Then over time the tracks would grow on me and I would love them too. Such a broad topic...
14.Of all the events these days and past events, where would your dream Dj slot be at?
Gatecrasher. I heard it closed down though.
I have a handful of goals with my music life. They are starting to filter out though. Other than Gatecrasher and Ibiza, I didnt really have any specific dream spots. And considering Gatecrasher closed and I already played in Ibiza last summer, I just go where the music takes me now.
One spot I would like to play at now is Japan. I always wanted to go there (for years and years and years) just to visit so landing a gig there would be like a dream I guess.
15.Favourite curse word?
**ck!
And Finaly
16.Your in the middle of a Mix/Performance and a guy keeps reaching out to shake your hand, your nice about it and happily shake his hand. He tries it again and hits the deck arm and the needle leaves the record...What do you do?
Hmm, most places I play dont have the decks within arms reach of the crowd. Or I am the one leaning over the decks to shake a hand haha. But if that happened, I would probably tell him to calm down a bit and ask him to get me a drink. I dont know honestly. Would be kind of funny actually. I was at an outdoor gig once and a bug landed on my record while it was playing. The bug didnt move for a good 10 seconds and the needle was getting closer and closer to it. I got nervous the bug would hurt my record or bump the needle or something so I lifted the needle off the record, music completely stopped, I blew the bug off the record with my mouth and then put the needle back on the record and the music started playing again. I looked up and about 100 people were watching me do this and all started cheering as soon as I looked back up. It was pretty funny. _________________ www.myspace.com/dj_anthonypaul

i would be really pissed off coz knowing most of my luck, it wouldve been a mad as set and then someone comes and knocks the tone arm. i would probably had no motivation to do anything for a short while but yould bounce back and knock the guy across the face with a nice solid 1200 haha _________________ "Yeh, I'm a club head.
