This all depends on whether you are Mac or PC based. If you're Mac based, I'd highly recommend Logic Studio. If you're PC based, then I'd have a look at Cubase, both are rammed with effects, and softsynths galore... If you want add-ons, I'd check the TC Works page... Peeps can elaborate when they know what stuff you already posses...
