Hey everyone, im struggling with gettin my kick and bass to work together, im producing Trance but im finding that once all my elements are present it doesn't sound as good as you would expect.

The bass & kick sound fine on their own, there isnt any problems with the bass taking the power out of the kick either, but im just not gettin anywhere.

Im guessin it has a lot to do with Compression, EQ'ing and such.

Any help/advice appreciated.

Cheers, Chris.

Try setting up some distortion and very slight reverb, then add the original on top, and another with more distortion panned to both left and another to right. Then it should sound quite a lot larger and probably achieve a 'full' sound. Although, sometimes people say that bass must be kept to mono, (only left), however, I'm not so sure that's essential... Question

Bass should be kept mono if the final medium is vinyl. Most record cutting plants will do this for you anyway, so you might as well know how it's going to sound. If it's on a CD, then it's really not that big of a problem except in extreme cases.

It's really hard to to say what's wrong without hearing it. It may not be the way you're mixing it. It could be the drum samples themselves & the source bass sound are not so hot - or a million other reasons.

Heck, maybe it's perfect but just needs some mastering.
