Started out DJing in 1991 playing hardcore, stuff like Insomniac and Urban Shakedown etc getting residency at 2 clubs in my home town in the Isle of Man called The Academy and Little Caesars. Slowly progressing musically and mixing wise I started finding the IOM a pretty bad place to be DJing Jungle techno as it was called back in the day so decided to move over to the Blackpool in the summer of 93 to further my so called career. I was pretty lucky to get work straight away over here playing Jungle at a small club in Preston called the Gatsby which is where I met and worked with an MC called Mister-E who you may have seen a couple of times at Sequins with us in 94 and a little more often when we did the barristers nights in Preston 95/96. He was a top MC man; he sounded good and looked the part, everything an inner city jungle mc was about back then.
While working on those nights I used to have a little go on the mike now and again nothing to serious just having a laugh and copying Bassman or Robbie Dee’s lyrics.
Having been in Blackpool for a few months and buying tunes from a place called Top Tunes on Central Drive (anyone remember that place?) the lad who ran it (Neil) gave me a bloke called Barry’s (Funki-B) number and said he was running nights playing Hardcore/Jungle and to give him a ring. Having spoken to Barry on the phone for the first time and to be honest getting on with him like a house on fire, we started getting in contact a lot more and swapping tune info etc which eventually led to me becoming resident at the Dreamstate nights at Morecambe’s Dome which I was well chuffed with. Getting to work with the likes of Top Buzz, Nookie, Tango, Donovan Badboy Smith, Grooverider(GODFATHER), Mickey Finn (GOD), Easy groove etc was exactly why I was over here and I really felt like I was getting somewhere with it all. I became one of the crew pretty effortlessly due to Rickee, Andy (Kane) and Baz all being top lads and we all had the same sense of humour and musical tastes back then and started hanging round with each other 24/7, we were like brothers to the expense of girlfriends and live in lovers, but hey we were having a top f**kin time and tings were good man, very good in fact.
We did the dome for 3 weeks and I was mcing regularly now as well as Djing and actually got to MC for Top Buzz on the first night for there full hour set which to this day I still feel was f**kin amazing, being on stage with Mickey B and Jason Jay who were hero’s to me back then, was an honour and just plain surreal.
Top buzz were good lads and got that fecked on the w*ed that they were falling out of the club (literally) at the end of the night. We did 3 weeks at the dome then there was a break for Easter weekend before the mighty Grooverider was going to be gracing the decks and I couldn’t wait, I was in f**kin dreamland waiting on that night I tell you.
The week before the Grooverider gig Rickee and Andy (Kane) turned up at my front door and dropped the bomb that we were not going to carry on with the Dome nights any longer as Sequins had become available on a long term basis and Barry and Ric were going to take it on playing Piano and old school. I was devo’d could not believe it, I didn’t own a piano tune and my old school sets were not really up Blackpool’s street due to my Jungle influences never mind not getting to DJ with the Rider. I was left with the MCing route to keep things alive and Rickee and Baz were adamant I was good enough to MC in Blackpool which was a real Mecca for MC’s at the time with the likes of Breezy, Irie, Kane, BMW etc who had all done serious damage with the mic in the town but this was not really my cup a cha and I had a serious debate on my hands. I took up the offer of Mcing @ Sequins - The Fever crew was born on April/May 1994 –

To Be Continued? - Maybe if the feedback is good!
