I work like this:
step1: create loops in Fruity using samples and plug-ins.
Step2: Export loops as wav files.
step3: Combine loops plus other samples to create a finished song
step4: Export complete song as wav.
Now, should I add dither when exporting a loop in step 1?
Or only dither when exporting the final song at step 4.
If I don't add dither at step 1, isn't the loop "flawed" when it is exported as a wav?
If I add dither at step 1 to the loop and then again at step 4 doesn't that mean the final tune has more dither than it should have, with some sounds having gone through dithering twice?
Have samples on magazine cds been dithered already? |

Step 2 and 4 should both have dithering, especially if you're working @ 16 bit.
Dithering @ both steps *will* add more dither on the final product, but it's better to have that at the last final bits than having quanitization noise there.
Dithering basically adds another bit for amplitude to be stored, but if you erase the data, that extra bit is worthless.
Dithering schemes are not all created equal however. _________________ -K@LR |
