CREATING A RAM FILE

ram files are used to stream audio / media and presentiaons live over the net - the benifit of this format is your information is available without having to wait for the info to download.

Make a .ram file.

It's a plain text file (use Notepad, Simpletex, dreamweaver ect')
containing one line of text - the full URL (address) of the
actual sound (.rm. ra ) file which should be located on a server,
(either audioserver for live streaming or http server for archive)

e.g ://www.example.org/myspeech.rm

If you want a series of different .rm files to be played one after
the other you can list their addresses

e.g ://www.example.org/mysong.rm
://www.example.org/mystory.rm
://www.example.com/someoneelse.rm etc.

This file should be saved as a .ram file somewhere.
remember, any link you make in your webpage to connect people
to your audio stream should point at this file.

It is not necessary to have the .ram and .rm, .ra file in the same
directory or even on the same server.

Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL, pronounced "smile")
enables simple authoring of interactive audiovisual presentations.

So basically when you open up a realaudio file you can make it interactive with links etc.. Example would be if you own a online record shop and you offer samples of your tunes, you can place your logo in the window of the realaudio player that links directly to your site. thats one of the benefit of using smil.

if you want to save a notepad file as a .ram instead of a .txt, when it says 'Save As Type' in the drop down box, select 'All Files' instead of the default 'Text Documents', then, when naming the file, just give it the extension you need. It always works for me.

I mainly use this when I am making simple html codes, as the html has to be saved as a .htm, not a .txt. Test it out, type is something like

<a href="http://www.trugroovez.com">www.trugroovez.com</a>

into a text window then first save it as link.txt file and then as link.htm file (after doing what I have explained previously). One should end up as a link.
