Im into so many genres of music, but i've found myself leaning into the broken beat scene over the past year. There must be peeps here feelin the likes of Zero 7, Bugz in The Attic, 4 Hero, Rima, Jazzanova? This genre is really kicking off and its got a wicked soulful side to it. Also its all about the jazzy house vibes, really feelin Papa records at the moment, artists like Reel People and Mattias HeilBronn? _________________ Less is More |

Rendall,
good that you should mention such a quality label papa records
I luv the soulful house vibe - I'm into the new US deep house labels myself at the moment like Space Kat & Soulgroove, a little different on sound but still deep & very soulful. Also got some nice work (productions )comin from these camps.
Also, Reel people are top quality band & thats effectivly what they are "a band", there song writing is second to none, and with the collaboration of the nu-jazz sound then it means alot more quality productions from Oli Lazarus, Mike Patto and Tom Davidson (Reel People) in the coming months
I will always remember "Spiritual" released in 2001 on Oli’s Papa Records label...Infact everyone should know that tune by now!

Hahaaa! I'm starting to think we'd get on quite well face 2 face! Yes, you put it in the right phrasing. Reel People are a band. The songwrting I think may be the strongest point. So many artists use vocal 'hooks' but these guys write musically deep emotional songs. Songs that hold time when others fade away.
Just got the remixes of Go Getter ;) Nice bit of 12.
Spiritual, yes everyone should know that. Maybe put it as a poll when creating new profiles, if they dont know it then they cant get in.... hehee. Yea love that one... Sit back and relax...... _________________ Less is More |

Hi, just to let you know that we have Antipodeons new album sampler on Xpressbeats.com
...we are looking at getting other quality Broken labels onboard the download site....
The tracks of this album are getting hammered on the broken scene especially at Co op (broken beats scene's big night at Plastic People, London)
Guess one of the best things about this scene in my opinion is that it brings togther the best elements of jazz, downtempo, house but creates something totally new as well.... |

Hey Rendall and mr Funky Admin Dude, if you're into brokenbeat and Reel people + papa records (I also really like The Monkeybrothers on papa) you might like some of my music, this tune i'm linking to below is a bit papa-esque.

Hi Miss Electrik , thanks for checking and replying, glad you like it
It's Ashar singing and me on the rest of the production, with a little help from two friends on the guitar bit.
I really enjoy working with vocal music as it makes proper songwriting a bit easier .. (eventhough that is not evident on the first ep, wich is all instrumental)
cheers

Thanks, glad you like it we had a really good time making it.
Yes I got an instrumental EP out on my own label Cute Records, wich also has a track from my friends Planetary Group on it, that EP is a bit more ruff than the "Shining" track. But there's nuff vocal stuff in the pipeline for coming EPs.
I'll keep you posted.

A major contributor to broken beat/house would be Todd Edwards. He seems to be king.
And Daft Punk should get a hand for bringing into mainstream in Discovery.
(assuming the style I'm thinking of broken beat.... ) _________________ Make love and listen to the music.

Here's some more Bruk ppl to look out for:
Younglee & Jake Sax
