On the flip, New York City based Wavewhore's tech funk outing titled “Funk Pill†features vocals from Bex Riley (of “What’s Down Low†fame) and is a favourite of the Drummatic Twins (who have licensed it for their upcoming mix CD on Fingerlickin’ Records). The Autobots Vs Screwface - Apocalypse / Wavewhore – Funk Pill (Broke)
Review by Jimmy Brayks (NuSkoolBreaks.co.uk)
I can tell Tom & Jez Autobot have an absolute catalogue full of tunes ready to be released on Broke – there has been 7 releases in as many months - and lots more to come! This release sees the boys take it back to what we all expect the 'Bots to sound like (and you thought they'd gone all funk on yo' ass after Ultrafukula!), teaming up with sub-bass-tearout producing-dons Screwface. Massive orchestra hits and sweeps, mixed up with an old skool beat and you knows it, some stomach gurning sub-bass, makes this a track firmly for the rinse-out dancefloor.
American NYC artist Wavewhore steps up for his debut release on Broke, and he doesn’t disappoint, with a vocal led acid-electro-funk rump shaker. A girl called Bex is on the vocals and a top job she does at that, sounding very fresh and crisp, and quite reminiscent of some of the vocalists on Roni Sizes New Forms.
Another firm release from Broke, showing that rinse and mince can share the same vinyl, and setting them firmly on their way to Best New label at Breakspoll...
In Stores Now!!! - Check your local beat dealers - The record should filter into stores over the next few weeks...
