Get 2 of the same records, failing that i'm sure you have a record that you also have on a cd compilation somewhere.Play 1 then play the other then just match it.I aint going to say its as easy as that cuz even the best dj double beats like an african tribe playing the bongo's.
As common as the phrase is mate its just trial and error.

Are you cue'n in on the 5th beat? (1st of next bar) e.g. 1 2 3 4 beats then cue in...

If your cue'n in right then it's just practice on determining whether it needs to be faster or slower. It may sound weird but one day you will just wake up and it will click lol. If you want a tip on determining whether it needs to be faster or slower, then use one ear on the headphones, have your speakers about the same volume as your headphones, cue in your next record and listen to it in your headphones (using one ear). Have the other tune playing through the speakers and listen to that with your other ear, this should help you decide whether it be faster or slower. Worked for me...

Are you using hardware ( TTables, Etc) or software (Traktor Etc)

The LED and Table Plate marking can help you learn how sensitive your pitch control is and can help you learn the TTables your using.

It can also help diagnose if you pitch control needs to be replaced.

Vitual Djing Software can be a number of factors.

practise, practise, practise...and you will improve. then you'll kick yourself for asking for help because all it took was a heck of a lot of time with your fingers on the pitch fader...

Try this:
Take two tracks of the same style. Start playing your first track at like +4% Then cue up your second track to the first measure with a beat. Make sure you have the cue track set at it's recorded speed (33 rpm or 45 etc.) Make sure that the cue track is not faster than the one your playing at +4%. If it is then speed it up even faster.Wait for the beginning of the phrase and drop your new tune. You should notice that it is much slower than the track playing. NOW SLAM YOUR PITCH ADJUST ON THE CUED RECORD ALL THE WAY TO THE POSITIVE SIDE.Speeding it up. Listen carefully to both tracks, you might even want to take the phones off and do this on the main sound. You will eventually here the cued track catch up with the one playing. At first It will be slower and then closer and then right on and then it will start moving ahead of your first track. When this happens slide your pitch adj. back quickly to slow the record. You should hear it move back to match and then slower than the other.Keep sliding back and forth making the adjustments as small as possible until your tracks are matched. Now start over with the same records and try dropping them now. You should be able to match them (without!)touching the records. Thats how you dial them in Very Happy

Practice.

If your really struggling then forget about the headphones and DONT play your music loud. I know that's the way the music is meant to be heard but if you dont learn to hear the subtleties which occur when mixing at a low level then you certainly wont be able to hear them amidst the noise when your music is loud.

Play tunes you are really familiar with, preferably with prominent beats as the more muddy the instrumentation is the harder it will be. Listen to the tunes through your monitors and practice your cue points. Listen properly and try to hear the difference in terms of what the noise sounds like when your a liitle behind or a little ahead. Once you are familiar with the sounds it will come naturally to you.

Sometimes it is easier to listen to the high frequencies like the hi-hats because the kick can often lose it's clarity amidst the bass. Whatever you think of him, Judge Jules mixes this way and famously once played a set using the crappy in-flight headphones you get on planes!

Using a mixer with bpm counters will help and there are other software apps that help you sync beats. Whilst this can be useful (usually in situations where you are trying to introduce a lot of things to the mix and quick beat-matching is a necessity), it is best to learn to beat match "properly" using your ears. This is true for a variety of reasons but mainly because it helps you 'feel' the groove and rhythm of a record something which can't be taught.

Doing it 'properly' also attaches you more to the overall feel and commands your attention. I've saw many occasions where the dj has been using bpm counters to judge beats and more often than not it results in an emotionless performance as it is though the dj is somehow detatched from what they are doing.

If you do go down the route of seeking some kind of visual aid remember that NONE of the methods are 100% accurate and you will definately still need to use your ears

There is a great book called - How to Dj (PROPERLY) by Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton which is a cracking read for anyone new to dj'ing and it really helps as it covers everything you need to know. My friend couldn't mix soup until he read it despite having numerous lessons, it's well worth a look!

It has to be said unfortunately, that the ONLY way to perfect the skill is to

PRACTICE PRACTICE AND PRACTICE
