Hi guys, sorry but here's another question concerning basslines.
I'm running pro-tools 7.3 and Reason 3 (reason being rewired into pro-tools) and I have created a bass sound that I am happy with. So far I have programed some midi in pt and have routed it into the subtractor synth and back into pt via the hardware interface and into a new channel so that I can record it as audio. This is my preffered method of working because it means I can take my session into college and take advantage of the Yamaha 02r mixing console's we use, anyhow that's beside the point.
I was hoping someone could enlighten me as to the way I should go about programing the bassline. Should I just play the midi note information or are there effects i can apply that would create a stuttering effect? I have used sidechain compression to get it pumping but I wondered if the "stutter" sound is just delay ( to my ear it sounds like what comes out of a pioneer djm600) The effect i'm talking about is commonly used by Eric Prydz under his Pryda and Cirez D guises.
I would also like to now how you apply note changes to the bassline once you have created the sound you like. For Example In the Tom Novy mix of Sander Kleinenberg's The Fruit, the bassline sounds like it goes down the scale by a few notes then back up. Should I record the sound I have made and then sample it? As you can probably tell, i'm very confused! lol
I have been looking at some demo songs on reason and a lot of the effects i see, like pitch bend, are applied by using automation. I was wondering if this was the norm orif there is another way of doing it?
I apologise for asking so much but I'm studying as a sound engineer and work mostly with live audio so i understand how a lot of the technology works but not how to use it and aplly it to dance music
Thanks very much in advance for any help!
