I UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE BEAT MATCHING WITH TURNTABLES BUT IT SEEMS TO NOT WORK WITH MY NUMARK CDN-88. I CAN START THE SECOND DECK RIGHT ON BEAT WHEN THE DOWN BEAT DROPS BUT THEN IT ALWAYS GETS OFF BEAT?WHEN I ADJUST THE PITCH IT SOUNDS CRAZY CAUSE ITS EITHER SLOWED TOO DAMN MUCH OR ITS SUPER FAST! ANY ADVICE WHERE I CAN LEARN HOW TO BEAT MATCH WITH CD'S?

Whether with CD's or Vinyls, it takes practice. While it's easy to beat match, getting the pitches just right is where the practice comes in. Doing it by ear can usually show some real talent. Just keep trying, and use trial and error. Once you have the approximate pitches you need for the two songs you are mixing, you memorize it to prevent playing around with that again. Now you are ready for the second step, the beat matching part.

Now once you have your beats going for several seconds (or even minutes if your lucky), no matter how precise your pitch is, one side is gonna probably slightly slow down (or creep pass) on you, causing a double beat to occur. Now what I do is this. I ignor one side and pay attention to the other. With that one I'm paying attention to, the second I notice it slowing down, I give it a slight push forward a couple of times until I notice the beats match again. Same thing if it goes a little too fast, only I press down lightly and make it drag until the beats match. Then it'll go on for several seconds or even minutes once again.

By the way, is that Numark CD player you have kinda like a CD scratcher? Cause if it's not, then I'm not sure how else you are gonna do this.

Hey,I appreciate all yalls replys .

I'm using a a cd scratcher.it works like turntables but it uses cds.
i guess it just takes practice. I only had it 2 months. but i thought the beat matching would be a little easier? i have been succesful with beats that have damn near the same bpm.but when i listen to djs on the radio it sounds like they can match any beat together?

Only took me just under a couple of weeks using turntables. And I learned it on my own. Very Happy

I guess the learning process varys from person to person.

Mixing with CD's are diffrent in a way. You push a button and your not touching the record so it is more of a mental thing and of course pratice.
I just switched from Vinyl to CD for 2 reasons one a lot less money to put out and where I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin the record stores dont get it.I order records and they never come in so I said **ck them.

Thats pure talent rght there!

It took me about 8 months to really click.

My mate was mixin a couple of years before me,I asked him one day how and wen I would get it.All he said was 'IT JUST CLICKS'.

And im sure any dj will tell u,one day u just wake up and they fit!
And from there on out it plan sailing .

Hey Throwed,

I've been using the CDN88 for over a year now and it sounds like you have the interlock feature activated. Deactivate it, now your ptich sliders will be fully in your control not the machine's.

Hi, DJ Throwed

Being working with Technics turntables for almost 10 years, I have changed to CD's, Why????????

1. Because if you are not a Top DJ and you are invited to play in some
places normally the money you own is not enought to support buying
vinyl's all the time or explaining better: you pay for a vinyl around 10
to 15 USD but if you purchase downloaded music from the net you will
pay around 1.50 to 2.00 USD

2. My second point is because I found the replacement for Technics
Turntables. Try to buy CDJ-800 and then you can take the same
quality mixes as you take on the best turntables like: Technics.

NOTE: I've played last month with John Creamer and Steve Lawler in Dominican Republic and they have used around 30% of they session set with CD's. I believe CD Players like CDJ-800/1000 are the future.

Try my tip and then you don't want to work with anything else.

It's my opinion that the ability to beat match tracks is simply a requirement if you want to be a dj. It is something that must be mastered. No DJ that I know would ever say, " Wow he/she is so TALENTED because of their flawless beat matching!" It's much more important to understand sequence and develop a strong sense of where your audience is at mentally and emotionally.

I think cd decks are ok to use now and again. Thinking of getting one soon for the odd track thats not released on vinyl or something, but much prefer vinyl and i really hope vinyl doesn't die off. Its just a tradition Spot on
