Hi guys,
I know everyone wants to be a dj and im not naive to think that i might not be any good at it or it might not happen for me but i really want to give it a go. Ive got an excellent ear for tunes and all my friends having been telling me that the cd's i burn for them are really good and i should be a dj.
But first i would really appreciate some advice. Firstly as im starting out I was thinking of getting something like the Pioneer CMX3000 as i have heard that the features are comparable to that of the CDJ1000's. I read something on the net that they dont work too good with CDR's? If this is so is there anything for a similar price that is better. Maybe the Denon DND 9000, is this worth extra money or better? Most of my music is all downloads so i would burning tracks onto CD's to dj with to practice at home with, which leads me onto the next questtion. Most tunes are available on vinyl or you can download them from dance music websites, but are these downloads good enough quality to play in a nightclub because most of the music i have isn't good enough quality to play in clubs. You dont seem to get the same choice if you aren't using vinyl which i might find frustrating if i want to play a certain track but cannot find it available to download. Thirdly, I read another guys post and he said thats its best not to waste time getting anything but the industry standard Pioneer CDJ 800 or 1000 as if you want to play in clubs eventually it might be more difficult if you learnt on something else.
And lastly, are there any really good books on learning how to use the equipment and learning to dj? I would really appreciate any advice you guys can give me. Thanks. |

HEy dude... get in there, get the best gear you can afford but save some money for tunes.
True it would be nice to practice on pioneer 800 or 1000.
I personally first played Cd decks in 1993 .. the original CDJ500.
they were superb then.. so I imagine all the technology has advanced since then.
I've been using records since then, have got a pair of sony decks at home for mucking about on. they're not bad and never let me down.
Spend your time perfecting sets. I spend quite a bit of time checking out records from sites like "HTFR".
Since all this I am now also thinking of getting a a pair of cdj, so i am in the same boat. I would probably plum for the stanton 303, and get myself either the pioneer 600 or the new denon 1500.
Once you get the measure of them I'm sure you can transfer the knowledge to suit the equipment in clubs.
I personally always buy my tunes so don't have the same problem with sound quality from downloads and is something you should consider.
Don't fret with the finety's... if you've got a good ear for what sounds good together get that part sorted first.
Get a good set together from downloads then treat yourself to a hard copy mate.
