As i has been producing music (DnB and a bit of techno) on a basic level for many years, the biggest step for me was when i bought a pair of monitors (Blue Sky Media Desktop 2.1)!
Even though i've been using Sonys MDRV-700 headphones, theyre now hanging on the wall collecting dust. (when i´m not mixing)
Before i bought them i was thinking as i know alot of others do, to get the cheapest possible, but after i'd heard a couple of monitors i realized that was just stupid. I bought the Blue Sky for about £450. It was worth it BIG TIME!
If you like producing music, even of youre just sitting in your room producing "easy stuff" on your spare time, i promise it'll be with so much more joy if you get a descent pair of monitors! Mine will keep my ears satisfied for many years...
Or am i wrong when i think alot of you are using your PC- or your HI-FI -speakers instead of monitors? Its like to have sex with or without a condom.
And btw, my monitors works FINE to ordinary music listening to!

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get that metaphor.....
Still...
Yes of course, a good monitoring system is essential! The blue sky stuff is good, because it is all matched up and you get a really good overall frequency response. Standard HI FI speakers are generally sexed up to enhance music to make it more "pleasing". Professional monitors are designed to be as flat as possible, ensuring you hear what is exactly going on. Of course, there will never be a flat response in a speaker of microphone, it is simply not possible. But as the prices go high, so does the accuracy...... _________________ Less is More |
