Harvey McKay is one of a school of new young artists to come out from Glasgow’s thriving underground club circuit. DJing since the age of 10, Harvey only turned his ear to production a few years ago and has already released on a number of labels including Artificial Silence, Perc Trax, Cubism and, most recently, Soma. His sound is clean and crisp but undoubtedly dancefloor-friendly, with clicky minimal elements battling with pounding techno production.
His debut single on Soma, Output, has recently been getting under the nails of Jamie Anderson, Mauro Picotto, James Zabiela and Michel De Hey amongst many others and 69 looks to pick up where Output left off.
A homage to Paisley’s infamous Club 69 with which Harvey has a close affinity, the track is a tech-house stormer that always sets the dancefloor on fire in Harvey’s sets. Speaking of the track Harvey tells, “It’s one of the quickest tracks I’ve ever put together, and one of the best. I managed to come up with every part in less than 10 minutes. If only every track came that quick”. The skeletal beats on the track contrast with the most devastating bassline in an aural assault on the masses.
On the flip, Torque is a lethal steamroller drenched in groove. With a thick warbling bassline, sparkling high-end and punchy cross-rhythms this cut will crush all in its path as it heads straight for the floor. |
